সম্প্রসারিত ভাব: বিদ্যা মানুষের অমূল্য ধন , সে বিষয়ে কোনো সন্দেহ নেই। কিন্তু চরিত্র বিদ্যার চেয়েও বেশি মূল্যবান। যত বড় বিদ্বানই হোক না কেন , চরিত্রহীন লোক কখনো লোকসমাজে প্রশংসা লাভ করতে পারে না। তাকে সকলেই ঘৃণা ও নিন্দা করে থাকে। এরূপ চরিত্রহীন বিদ্বান লোকের সঙ্গ ত্যাগ করাই মঙ্গলজনক। কথিত আছে , কোনো কোনো বিষধর সাপের মাথায় মহামূল্য মণি রয়েছে। এর একটা মণি সংগ্রহ করতে পারলে বিপুল ধন – সম্পদের অধিকারী হওয়া যায়। তাই বলে মণি লাভের জন্য কোনো বুদ্ধিমান লোক সাপের সাহচর্য লাভ করতে চায় না। এতে জীবন নাশের আশঙ্কা থাকে। সেরূপ বিদ্যা অমূল্য ধন হলেও চরিত্রহীন দুর্জন বিদ্বান লোকের সাহচর্যে যাওয়া কিছুতেই মঙ্গলজনক নয়। এতে মানবজীবনের শ্রেষ্ঠ সম্পদ চরিত্র নষ্ট হওয়ার আশঙ্কা থাকে। সচ্চরিত্র ব্যক্তি মূর্খ হলেও অসচ্চরিত্র বিদ্বান অপেক্ষা শ্রেষ্ঠতর। কারণ চরিত্রহীনের বিদ্যা – বুদ্ধি জ্ঞানবান বা চরিত্রবান ব্যক্তির কোনো কাজে লাগে না। কাজেই জীবনের সর্বক্ষেত্রেই অসচ্চরিত্র ব্যক্তির সাহচর্য পরিত্যাগ করে চলাই বাঞ্ছনীয।
উপসংহারঃ দুর্জনের স্বভাব-ধর্ম অন্যের ক্ষতি করা। তাই কোনো শিক্ষিত লোক যদি চরিত্রহীন হয়, তবে অবশ্যই তার সঙ্গ পরিহার করা উচিত। কারণ, তার কাছ থেকে উপকার পাওয়ার চেয়ে বরং ক্ষতি হওয়ার সম্ভাবনা বেশি।
